About

Sue Yuan is a sophomore at the University of Notre Dame majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Business Economics. Yuan is interested in a wide variety of research areas, from linguistic anthropology, gender studies, East Asian studies, to developmental economics. Her interest in research emerged in high school, where she completed two independent research projects. Her first research project on analyzing online gendered language usage in contemporary China, which was guided by a professor through the Pioneer Research Program. The same year, she also completed an EPQ (extended essay for the A-Levels curriculum in the UK), researching on the changing notions of marriage and single-hood in China. Both projects significantly improved her qualitative research skills, especially in literature review and synthesizing analysis. Yuan is also a part of the Greater China Scholarship Program at Notre Dame. Outside of academia, she is deeply passionate about volunteering, fundraising, and raising awareness for providing underprivileged girls’ with an equal opportunity to education in developing countries to close the gender gap.
