Chelsea Estancona

Chelsea Estancona is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina. Her research focuses on how militant groups make funding choices and how these choices affect intrastate conflict processes, showing that militant groups, like states, can be affected by the resource curse. Her work uses game theoretic models and quantitative methods to demonstrate how this dynamic changes the strategic interaction between states and militant groups.  Her coauthored article "Civilian Self-Defense Militias in Civil War" recently was published in the journal International Interactions.

Estancona earned both a Masters and PhD in political science from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
