Zaryab Iqbal is the Program Director for the Security and Preparedness (SAP) and the Political Science programs at the National Science Foundation. She is also Associate Professor of Political Science at Pennsylvania State University. Her primary research and teaching interests are in international conflict and security, specifically the consequences of armed conflict and questions related to state failure, political assassinations, and human security. She is the author of War and the Health of Nations and State Failure in the Modern World (Stanford University Press). Her other work has been published in a number of journals, including the Journal of Politics, Journal of Conflict Resolution, and International Studies Quarterly.

Iqbal earned a PhD in Political Science from Emory University and an MA from the University of Denver.
