Irla Atanda is a senior IDS Minor majoring in American Studies with additional minors in business economics and theology. Atanda won a 2019-2020 Kellogg/Kroc Undergraduate Research Grant for her project, “The Venezuelan Migrants: Encountering Social Barriers in the Labor Market.” This research has informed her capstone project which is entitled, “Voices of Venezuelan Immigrants: Navigating Changes in the Family Structure, Cultural Integration, and Education.”

  • 2022  - Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Fellow; funded by the US Department of State and administered annually by Howard University, the Pickering Graduate Fellowship covers tuition, room, board, books and fees for completion of two-year master’s degrees.  
  • 2020 - Boren Scholar; provides support to undergraduates pursuing the study of languages and cultures currently underrepresented in study abroad programs and critical to national security
