Derek T. Muller is a professor of law and the Bouma Fellow in Law at the University of Iowa College of Law. His research focuses on election law, particularly federalism and the role of states in the administration of federal elections. His additional interests include federal courts, legal education, and the bar exam.

Muller worked as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Raymond W. Gruender of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit Court in St. Louis, Mo., practiced litigation with Kirkland & Ellis LLP in Chicago, and was a professor of law at Pepperdine University’s Rick J. Caruso School of Law.

Muller earned a JD from University of Notre Dame Law School, where he was a visiting professor in the spring of 2020.
