David Covin is a professor emeritus of government and ethnic studies in the Pan African Studies Program at California State University, Sacramento. His research interests include black politics in the US and Brazil and social movements. Covin was active in the civil rights movement, participating in voter registration drives in Mississippi and Alabama and the March on Montgomery and co-chairing a chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality in Colorado. He was a founder of the Sacramento Area Black Caucus and in 2003 helped organize an event that eventually became the annual Congress of African Peoples. Covin is a published novelist and short story writer.
