Xueheng Zhang is working with Professor Susan Blum from Department of Anthropology to collect people’s experiences learning inside and outside of school at all levels in a variety of international settings, with the goal to better understand the contemporary phenomenology of socialization.

Last summer, Zhang received an Experiencing the World Fellowship from Kellogg to work for an Ecuadorian non-governmental organization called UBECI in Quito, Ecuador. During those two months, she got to spend time with poor Ecuadorian children in the markets, learning and playing with them. In the meantime, she also helped an Anthropologist with her field research, which focused on the effectiveness of the local NGO in promoting the wellbeing of Ecuadorian children, including their education and health conditions.
