Susan D. Page

Susan D. Page began her foreign affairs career at the US Department of State in 1991 and has served in a range of key roles internationally, including as the first US ambassador to the new nation of the Republic of South Sudan from 2011 to 2014. She also has served as attorney-advisor for politico-military affairs, USAID regional legal adviser in Kenya and Botswana covering East and Southern Africa, political officer in Rwanda, regional director for Southern and East Africa at the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, and as Chargé d’Affaires to the U.S. Mission to the African Union/Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Economic Commission for Africa. In 2017, she served as Assistant Secretary General and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for the Peacekeeping Mission for Justice Support in Haiti. Page earned an AB with high distinction in English from the University of Michigan and a JD from Harvard Law School. During the 2019-2020 academic year, Susan was a visiting professor of the practice at the Keough School of Global Affairs. This fall, Susan will return to the University of Michigan, serving as a professor of practice in international diplomacy in the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, helping to build the Weiser Diplomacy Center, and serving as a professor of practice at the Law School.
