Summer Dissertation Fellowships

 

NEW Summer Dissertation Fellowships fund advanced Kellogg Doctoral Student Affiliates in the social sciences, history, theology, and law. The fellowships are intended to help support student's  during the summer months when no other stipend support is available and/or to help student's complete the writing of their dissertations in time for an August degree conferral.

Levels of Support

The award will usually be equal to the respective department's monthly stipend for graduate student assistants. The funding term will begin immediately following the last student stipend in May through July 31.   Award recipients are required to notify the Kellogg Institute of any funding received from other internal sources as there should be no duplication of stipend funding. 

We strongly encourage students to apply for external grants and we will usually allow you to combine Kellogg stipend funding with other kinds of funding in a total amount that exceeds a normal monthly stipend from the Graduate School.

To Apply

A complete application consists of the following submitted by midnight, April 2, 2024 to our online application:

  • A research prospectus that does not exceed 4 double-spaced pages, including a plan of work and timeline for the fellowship period and clearly stating how the proposal fits into the priorities of the Institute. 
  • A summary of bibliographical references
  • A curriculum vitae, including education, awards, professional experience, and publications.
  • The name and email address for the principal dissertation advisor who will be sent an email with a link to fill out a reference form in our online system.
  • An official transcript

Eligibility

 

  • The dissertation topic must pertain to international studies.
  • The Institute will prioritize dissertation work supervised by a Kellogg faculty fellow addressing the thematic priorities of the Kellogg Institute.
  • Students must be a Kellogg Institute Doctoral Student Affiliate. 
  • Applicants must be enrolled in good academic standing and ABD.
  • May graduates are not eligible to apply.
  • Student's are only eligible to apply once during their doctoral programs.
  • Students who have other stipend (basic living expenses) support equal to a full departmental graduate student stipend from Notre Dame sources for the time period being considered are not eligible.
