David Smilde is the Charles A. and Leo M. Favrot Professor of Human Relations at Tulane University and a senior fellow at the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA), where he moderates the WOLA Venezuela Politics and Human Rights blog. His research focuses on social movements, human rights, and culture in Venezuela.
Smilde, a former visiting fellow at the Kellogg Institute, is currently working on a book manuscript about Venezuela’s transition to socialism under Hugo Chávez. He earned his PhD from the University of Chicago.
