Faculty Fellow Susan Blum (anthropology) has been quoted in a Wall Street Journal article titled, “The Resurrection of the Office Phone Call.” The piece discusses the benefits of a traditional phone call, which is not as overwhelming and complicated as video calls many companies have started using during the pandemic. 

Blum comments that Zoom fatigue is inevitable given how unnatural conversational patterns can become: “Video calls do not allow any conversational overlap. You can’t say ‘mmm-hmm’ to assent because that would interrupt and put you on screen as the main speaker.”
