Former Visiting Fellow Mercedes Prieto (fall 2015) is professor emeritus at La Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO), Ecuador. This position allows her to split her time between María Pinto, Chile, and Quito, Ecuador, maintaining multiple links with teaching and research at FLACSO.

After publishing a Kellogg Institute working paper and a book about the genealogy of development in the Andes, she has embarked in an in-depth reflection around the ways of knowing in the social sciences, highlighting practices and materialities in these processes. In this exploration, she has followed many of her interests in geography, photography, objects of research, and other mediations. She has published several articles and started a book on the subject.
