Faculty Fellow Nicole Stelle Garnett (John P. Murphy Foundation Professor of Law) was quoted in a National Catholic Reporter article titled, “Closures of Catholic schools in Black neighborhoods provoke sense of abandonment.” The article discusses the how and why black Catholic students and schools have been disadvantaged by the pandemic.

“Garnett told NCR that years of research have shown that Black students in Catholic schools perform better academically and attend college at higher rates than their public-school peers. The benefits are the greatest for the economically poorest students. However, those urban schools have struggled the most with enrollment in the past several decades NCEA data shows.”
