Faculty Fellow Jeffrey Bergstrand, University of Notre Dame's finance professor, was quoted in an NBC news article: "Could Japan be Trump's next trade war victim?" He spoke about the Japanese economy and its trade with the US. Particularly, on how Tokyo is trying to avoid being the next target of President Trump's trade wars.

"Like China, Japan considers long-term strategy and interests, Bergstrand says. That is why, during the talks, Abe mentioned direct investment in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan — three states that Trump would need to gain reelection."
