Abroad spring 2024: London, England

Olemo Gordon Brian is an Economics and Political Science major from Apac, Uganda. He will be assisting Prof. Jaimie Bleck on her research examining youth attitudes towards foreign powers in Cote d'Ivoire. He will also offer assistance in revisions for her new book on “Social capital, youth, and the Mali crisis.” In the Spring, he will do data cleaning and coding for a survey of mayors in Mali.

Olemo is a fellow of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and a programs associate at the Future Africa Fellowship. During the pandemic, in response to heavy handed state responses, he undertook a qualitative research project on “Curtailing State-Policing Power During Crises to Safeguard Human Rights.” Olemo spent the summer in South Africa investigating political mobilization and organization within the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and their youth wing the EFF Students Command (EFFSC).
