About

Abroad spring 2024: Toledo, Spain

Raleigh Kuipers—a global affairs and Spanish double major with minors in civil and human rights and European studies—is researching with Professor Clemens Sedmak, the director of the Nanovic Institute for European Studies. She is currently researching the nature of human dignity in light of disabilities and the characteristics of resilient institutions in Ukraine during the invasion. Previously, she researched perceptions of female health and beauty in early 20th-century Latin America with Vanesa Miseres.

Kuipers is a recipient of the Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholarship for Public Service, which will enable her to conduct research in Latin America on legislation addressing gender-based violence during the summer of 2024. During the summer of 2023, she worked as a research and communications intern at ARINS - Analyzing and Researching Ireland, North and South, through Notre Dame’s Dublin Global Gateway Irish Internship program. Kuipers also works as a marketing and communications intern for the Pulte Institute for Global Development, and is a member of the Klau Institute for Civil and Human Rights’ Student Leadership Team.
