Lucas Novaes is a PhD candidate in political science at the University of California, Berkeley. With a primary focus on the Brazilian party system, he researches the mechanics of clientelistic party organizations and how tensions that arise across subnational and local party tiers explain system-wide outcomes. Lucas earned a BA in economics from the University of São Paulo, an MA in economics from Fundação Getúlio Vargas, and an MA in political science from University of California, Berkeley.
