Faculty Fellow Mark Berends (sociology) was quoted in a recent Christian Science Monitor article on charter schools and school choice.  Titled "Why Both Left and Right are Knocking Charter Schools," the article  explores the debate on the bebfits of charter schools and the connection to school choice vouchers.

Relying on his expertise as the director of the Center for Research on Educational Opportunity at Notre Dame and findings from a school-choice research project in Indiana he's leading, Berend comments on the educational outcomes of charter schools. He shares, “We know there’s some charter schools that are doing really excellent things in terms of developing students, and then there’s some charter schools that probably should be shut down.”
