Yesterday, ABROADER hosted a very cool cultural exchange session with about 30 participants - a mix of interns from the United States and the local buddies from Vietnam that we are paired with for buddy chats. One of the local buddies led the Zoom meeting and showed us how to make Vietnamese spring rolls. This included a video tour of the local markets followed by a live walk-through of preparing the spring rolls. We also learned some Vietnamese words and went to breakout rooms with other local buddies to talk about culture surrounding food, meals, and dining etiquette. We each brought a favorite food or snack to the breakout rooms and spent time talking about them. A third-year undergrad student from Hanoi brought in a Vietnamese granola snack typically eaten with milk. A senior from Ho Chi Minh who is studying social sciences brought a crunchy rice snack that is made from using rice from the bottom of the pan - typically eaten as a comfort food. Another student from the United States brought chips and salsa.
