Former Visiting Fellow Bob Baulch and his family have been weathering out the COVID-19 storm in Lilongwe, where Bob will continue as leader of the Malawi country prgram at the International Food Policy Research Institute until the middle of next year. A new government, elected after a re-reun of the disputed 2019 presidential election, has brought in many new ideas and Baulch has been involved in assisting some of the new proposed policies. In particular, Baulch has helped in the areas of farm input subsidies, crop insurance, and agricultural markets, along with assessing the short-term impact of COVID-19 on the Malawian economy, on which Bob made a keynote presentation to the Economic Association of Malawi on November 20.
