Faculty Fellow Emeritus Rev. Gustavo Gutiérrez, OP (theology) stated his support for declaring St. Oscar Romero a doctor of the Catholic Church in a Catholic News Service article. Gutiérrez, who met the Salvadoran saint in the early 1970s, said that when it comes to declaring a saint a doctor of the church, "love toward another person is worth more than all of the theologies." He also shared that he was pleased, but not surprised, to learn of Romero's canonization.
