Faculty Fellow Peter Casarella (theology) was interviewed for a Crux article about the origin and impact of gang violence in El Salvador.  Casarella notes that President Trump's desire to build a wall to prevent "invasion" of Central American gangs is unfounded, since the gangs originated in the United States.  He also speculated about the response that Salvadoran Saint Oscar Romero would have had to the violence, saying "It would be unthinkable that Romero, if he were alive today, could look the other way as someone who accompanied the people."
