El Diario AR published an extensive interview with Faculty Fellow Aníbal Pérez-Liñan about the health and survival of democracies in Latin America (in a Spanish-language article), discussing the role of political elites, the history of democracies in Latin America, the fluid nature of democracy, and other topics, including questions specifically regarding democracy in contemporary Argentina.

"Beyond structural conditions, beyond the level of economic development, beyond social inequality, the commitment of political elites to democracy is the main variable that explains whether democracy survives or breaks," he asserts, in part.
