Tracy Kijewski-Correa Faculty Fellows Tracy Kijewski-Correa and Debra Javeline were interviewed by Newsweek about the aftermath of Hurricane Ian in Florida and what Florida’s next steps should be. Kijewski-Correa emphasized the importance of keeping buildings up to code as she states that, “all the structures built to modern code perform quite well”. The problem now is to retrofit the vulnerable houses in Florida which is challenging to mandate. Javeline explained that although politicians who allocate money for rebuilding will be praised, "no politician is brave enough to talk realistically about the constraints of climate change for rebuilding. Voters don't want to hear it".
