Maira HayatFaculty Fellow Maira Hayat wrote a perspective piece in The Washington Post about how Pakistan's history with colonialism and foreign aid impacted their irrigation system. This system was proven inadequate due to the recent floods and is undergoing scrutiny because of the large devastation it has left. Hayat dives into the history of Pakistan and its water structure to conclude, “that inequality and poverty are no more natural than the floods: Both are colonial legacies perpetuated by contemporary arrangements of sovereignty and financial dependence”.
