Congratulations to Former Visiting Fellows Amy Erica Smith and Lauren Honig for their attainment of Global Religion Project Launch Grants from the Global Religion Research Initiative (GRRI) of the Center for the Study of Religion and Society (CSRS) at Notre Dame!  These grants aim to encourage North American scholars to expand the horizons of empirical research on religion in the social sciences.  Their project,"Keepers of the Garden: Abrahamic Religions and Support for Environmental Protection in Brazil and Kenya," aims to explore the varying relationship between religion and environmentalism in the developing world.  Smith and Honig will carrty out qualitative fieldwork in Brazil and Kenya to understand how Catholics, Pentecostals, and Muslims explain environmental degradation and climate change, as well as what they view as appropriate solutions.
