Former PhD Fellow and Dissertation Year Fellow Carlos Gervasoni published a new book Hybrid Regimes within Democracies using data from the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) project at the Kellogg Institute.

The book provides the first in-depth description and explanation of democracy and authoritarianism in all the subnational units of a federation.  It focuses on subnational regimes in Argentina, and provides a chapter comparing this nation to seven other federations.  Former Faculty Fellow Scott Mainwaring (political science) said about the book, "It is theoretically innovative and important and empirically rich."
