Director of the Ford Program and Faculty Fellow Rev. Robert Dowd, CSC (political science) published a new book chapter titled, "Transnational Evangelical Christianity and Political Culture in Sub-Saharan Africa" in Extremisms in Africa. The chapter explores the political activities of evangelical churches in Nigeria, Uganda, and Zambia, particularly those with ties to faith-based organizations in the United States. are having on political rights and civil liberties. He finds that these churches tend to support political rights but discourage support for some basic civil liberties.
