Faculty Fellow Josh Eisenman (global affairs) was quoted in a South China Morning Post articled titled, “Beijing has Reason to be Emboldened by Response to Hong Kong National Security Law Plan, US Observers Say.” The article describes the civil unrest and protests in Hong Kong that emerged after Beijing’s passage of a security law that violates the “one country, two systems” principle set in place through 2047.

Eisneman is quoted, “If you’re pretty sure you have to take this step anyways, from their perspective, you might as well do it now. You want to pay the least cost for it that you can.”
