Former Kellogg Dissertation Year Fellow Austin Choi-Fitzpatrick (PhD ‘13) was recently chosen to co-direct Yale University’s Working Group on the Future of Slavery and Emancipation.

The working group looks to answer the questions of what the futures of slavery and emancipation are and how societies will prepare for that as the era of contemporary efforts draws to a close. The group looks at changes across the domains of energy and climate, innovation in science and technology, and local and global governance.

In addition to his Dissertation Year Fellowship, during his time with Kellogg, Fitzpatrick received a Kellogg Graduate Research Grant for his research “The Sustainable Emancipation Project.”

Fitzpatrick now works at the University of San Diego where he has been appointed Associate Provost for Academic Strategy and Growth. His research focuses on politics, culture, technology, and social change.
