Kellogg Faculty Fellow Emiliano Aguilar recently authored the analysis “All in a Day’s Work: Latino Labour under Trump 2.0” in International Affairs. The article examines Trump’s renewed crackdown on undocumented immigration and whether or not his actions will truly accomplish anything, or rather merely appease his base. 

Trump’s campaign promise to secure the southern border and crackdown on undocumented immigration has found new life in his second term as president. However, this extremely public display of deportation and immigration enforcement may have harsh consequences on the Latino labor force, with foreign-born individuals accounting for nearly three-fourths of the growing labor force from 2000 to 2022. 

This has led to the questioning of what the renewed immigration crackdown is truly accomplishing, and whether it will more significantly benefit or harm the economy and social fabric of the United States.
