Matthew Heilman is majoring in neuroscience and behavior and minoring in international development studies and gender studies. This summer Heilman is completing a remote internship with Badgers Academy, an NGO in Cape Town, South Africa that runs an all-female soccer club. The club works to provide girls and young women in underprivileged and/or high-risk regions with mentorship, support networks, and educational programs. Heilman is helping design "soft skills" programs, creating single-day workshops for the girls around topics like health and wellness, diet, sleep, reproductive and sexual health, body confidence and self-esteem, mental health and stress, and leadership skills.
