About

Liam Gibson is a junior living in Pangborn Hall and majoring in History, Russian, and Global Affairs. Liam is interested in studying development and conflicts in former Soviet states. During the 2022 fall semester he worked with RAND Corporation through the Student Policy Network studying sources of non-military power in the United States, Russia, and China. During the 2023 fall semester Liam is conducting a systematic review of peer-reviewed literature on the inclusion of the environment in formal peace agreements with Professor Drew Marcantonio.

Liam has spent considerable time honing his Russian language skills. In the summer of 2022 he received a Summer Language Abroad grant to live with a host family and study Russian for 6 weeks in Batumi, Georgia. In the summer of 2023 Liam lived with a host family and studied Russian in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan as part of the State Department’s Critical Language Program. In the 2023-2024 academic year he is serving as the president of the Russian Club. After graduation, Liam hopes to use his Russian language abilities to work in developing nations in the post-Soviet sphere.Liam regularly volunteers at a Boys and Girls Club in South Bend through Campus Ministry's Mercy Works and believes that living Notre Dame's mission to be "a powerful force for good" in the world includes the local South Bend community. He is also the editor of Pangborn Hall's comedic newspaper The Royal Installment.
