Yarely Rubio Gonzalez is a junior at the University of Notre Dame majoring in Accountancy with minors in Poverty Studies and Business and the Common Good. As an undergraduate, Rubio Gonzalez is passionate about exploring the intersection between business and social justice to serve her community better. She has sought to better understand this connection by engaging in various initiatives throughout campus and abroad. During her first year, Rubio Gonzalez participated in NDBridge, where she dedicated her summer to exploring immigration near the U.S.-Mexico border and serving those most in need. Through the Institute for Social Concerns, she has had the opportunity to engage with various communities around the United States, such as Chicago and rural Kentucky, by standing witness to the deeply personal stories of community members and learning about organizations with differing strategies to combat the injustices present in their local communities.
Her study abroad experience in Copenhagen, Denmark, allowed her to visit various European countries, such as Spain and Sweden, that have given her a new perspective on how policy and business strategies can be implemented to more holistically encompass those on the fringes of Society. Now, she hopes to pair that understanding with more formal approaches such as those that research offers. Rubio Gonzalez looks forward to engaging in research opportunities that
promote the common good for all.
