William Ek is a sophomore from Saint Paul, Minnesota, studying global affairs and theology at Notre Dame. He is currently serving as a research assistant to Dr. Clemens Sedmak of the Keough School of Global Affairs. Throughout the 2024-25 academic year, Ek will assist with research evaluating moral and ethical challenges faced by Catholic universities, as well as a project concerning the role of the Catholic Church and the concept of synodality in Europe. With interests in education, theology, and democracy, Ek spent the summer of 2024 in San Jose, Costa Rica, through the NDBridge program at the Center for Social Concerns. In the program, his research and internships examined the challenges faced by displaced children, particularly in the field of education.
