About

Westin Smith is a Ph.D. student in Spanish within the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Notre Dame. Before joining Notre Dame, Westin earned dual degrees in Spanish and English, with a minor in French, from Utah State University. He is a first generation scholar from Southern California.

Currently, Westin is investigating how modern Iberian cultural production questions and imagines what it means to be human. Through the figures of animals, nature, and death, Westin researches how humanity’s definition influences our relationship with the environment.
