Originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, Sonia Gloege is a member of Notre Dame's class of 2025 and is double majoring in Economics and Global Affairs, with a minor in Data Science. Her research interests include sustainable development as it relates to long-term economic, social, and environmental solutions. Beyond that, she is interested in economic policy and exploring the roles and capabilities of both public and private sectors in global development. She also enjoys studying economic history as it relates to topics such as globalization and the rise of multinational corporations, NGOs, and international organizations. On campus, Sonia is involved in Matriculate, Students Consulting for Nonprofits, the Magnificat Choir, and Notre Dame’s Student Policy Network, where she has researched and presented on topics such as economic sanctions for peace building, data privacy, and labor trafficking.
While at Notre Dame, Sonia has gained experience in econometrics, stats, micro and macroeconomics, finance, Python, and Excel. Through the KDR, Sonia hopes to develop her skills in Stata, R, and Python and learn more about how she can bridge both qualitative and quantitative modes of analysis to develop multifaceted research. She is particularly interested in learning more about the data storytelling process and using the tools of economic theory and data analysis to give a more complete, complex picture.
