About

Pablo Forni is a senior researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research of Argentina (CONICET), director of the Institute for Social Science Research (IDICSO), and full-time professor of sociology at the School of Social Science of the Universidad del Salvador (USAL). His research focuses on the role of Pope Francis' theology in grassroots social movements in Argentina. 

At Kellogg, Forni will work on his book project titled “The Theology of the People and its Popular Ministry as a Social Movement in Argentina: Grassroots Organizations, Underground Networks, and Popular Mysticism,” which draws on ethnographic fieldwork, interviews, photographs and documents collected for over a ten-year period.

In addition to numerous chapters and entries, his recent publications include articles on "The Argentine Social Movements and the Theology of the People," "The Missionaries of Francis: The Theology of the People and the Unification of the Argentine Piquetero Movement (2014-2018)," and "Artisans of Unity: Missionaries of Francis and Social Movements in the Times of Macri.”

A recipient of various fellowships and grants, Forni most recently won a 2023 research grant from the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) for the project “Indigenization Theological Movements in South Korea and Argentina: History and Legacy of the Minjung Theology and the Theology of Culture in a Comparative Perspective.” He is the founder and director of the indexed journal Miriada: Investigación en Ciencias Sociales (IDICSO-USAL).

Forni holds a PhD in sociology from the University of Notre Dame. As a graduate student, he was affiliated with the Kellogg Institute as a Project Latin America 2000 fellow (1993-97).
