Mary O'Connell is the former Chief Procurement Officer & Senior Vice President of Global Supply Management at American Express in New York. In this role, O'Connell was responsible for the sourcing, settlement, and risk management of $10B+ in goods and services procured through third parties on behalf of the Company. During her remarkable 25+ year career with Amex, she held roles of increasing responsibility across a diverse set of businesses and functions, including Global Servicing, Global Merchant Pricing, U.S. Membership Rewards, Consumer Services New Product Development, and Global Reengineering. Before joining American Express, Mary worked for Accenture in New York.
O’Connell graduated magna cum laude in 1996 with a BA from the University of Notre Dame, where she received a Kellogg Institute fellowship, and holds an MIA (Master of International Affairs) from Columbia University.
O'Connell is a member of the Board of Trustees of The Hopkins School in New Haven, Connecticut, the 3rd oldest independent day school in the United States (grades 7-12). She has also served on Kellogg's Advisory Board since 2010, and became Board Chair in July 2021.
