About

This profile was current as of 2016, when he was part of the on-campus Kellogg community.

As a Kellogg Scholar, I have been working with Professor Jensen to investigate Confucius Institutes as a manifestation of China's soft power initiatives abroad. My research has focused primarily on the issues Confucius Institutes present for their host institutions, particularly in relation to questions of academic freedom, employment practices, and sources of funding. Recently, I have also been examining reports of religious persecution of Christians in Zhejiang Province, China. Reports have indicated that provincial officials in Zhejiang have been targeting Christian religious symbols on the exteriors of churches for demolition as well as shutting down unsanctioned sites of worship.
