In an effort to gain greater understanding on the transmission of democracy and contagious backsliding, Noy Specht will be working with Professor Coppedge to analyze the effects of Soviet domination on the 13 independent republics that emerged after the collapse of the USSR and their neighboring states. Specht will study the timeline of Soviet involvement in each of these countries and analyze the political and military forces that brought them into the Soviet orbit.
