The Publication Grant provides support for Kellogg faculty fellows seeking assistance with publishing their findings. Priority will be given to those who have previously conducted research with Kellogg funding. This grant aims to offset the costs of publication expenses to promote scholarly impact. Through this grant, recipients are encouraged to publish scholarly outputs based on their research findings, including peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, monographs, or other academic publications. Before applying for this grant, please check whether the University covers your open access through transformative agreements.

Submission
The complete application will require:
- A brief abstract of your research (150 words)
- Documentation of a publication expense
- A publication plan (with a timeline identifying target journals or publishers)
- An abbreviated (2-3 page) CV
- A detailed line-item budget (dowload budget template below)
Allowable Expenses
The Publication Grant provides financial assistance of up to $3,000 to cover expenses associated with publication process, including but not limited to
- manuscript preparation
- journal submission fees
- open-access publication fees
- translations, and
- other relevant costs
Funding Amount
The Kellogg Institute will offer up to 4 grants in this funding category every semester.
Criteria
- Proposed research projects must demonstrate relevance to at least one of the two major Kellogg themes of democracy and human development. Applicants should clearly articulate how their research contributes to advancing understanding and fostering positive change within these thematic areas.
- Applicants should demonstrate how the publication contributes to advancing knowledge, addressing significant research gaps, or informing policy and practice within their respective fields. This may involve highlighting the originality, significance, and relevance of the research findings for the intended audience, as well as discussing potential implications for future research, policy development, or practical applications.
- Overall quality of the proposal including its potential for innovation (e.g., in research methodology), as well as professional presentation (e.g., spelling, grammar, and accurate budgeting)
- Budgetary appropriateness (i.e., the requested expenses are justified as necessary to the completion of the research)
Eligibility
This grant is only made to Kellogg faculty fellows. Proposals must be within the field of international studies in order to be eligible and should relate to at least one of Kellogg’s core research themes of democracy and human development.
