Enanu Smart ‘27

Enanu Smart is working with Professor Joyce Adams who dedicates her research to Focused Postpartum Care (Focused-PPC). This program provides an innovative, integrated group postpartum care, education, and support model for women up to one year after delivery. Smart aids in creating data collection materials, study materials/documents, and data collection. Additionally, Smart helps with data analysis, grant applications, manuscript writing, and report writing. This research aligns with Smart’s passion for providing more readily available medical care regardless of financial situation. During the summer of 2024, Smart was working as a research assistant with the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria (UICOMP). Smart partook in cancer research under the Dr. Malchenko-Soares lab which specializes in intercellular mitochondrial transfer between cancer cells and astrocytes. Smart has continued with cancer research while on campus at Stack Lab at Harper Cancer Research Institute, dedicated to analyzing the spread of cancer surrounding the peritoneal surface
