Faculty Fellow Jeffrey Bergstrand published his first paper in a journal in 1985: ‘‘The Gravity Equation in International Trade: Some Microeconomic Foundations and Empirical Evidence" appeared in the third issue of Volume 67 of the Review of Economic Statistics on pages 474-481. Earlier this month, when the journal commemorated it's 100th anniversary of publication (1917-2017), it recognized this article as the eighth most-cited paper overall in its history, as well as the most-cited paper of the 1980s.
Additionally, his second paper, "The Generalized Gravity Equation, Monopolistic Competition, and the Factor-Proportions Theory in International Trade," which was published in the same journal in 1989, was noted as the fifth most cited paper of that decade.
