After earning a PhD from Harvard and teaching economics at Occidental College for 15 years, and following a conversion to the Catholic faith, Mary Hirschfeld resigned her tenured position and pursued a doctorate in theology at Notre Dame. Today she is associate professor of economics and theology at Villanova University. She has offered papers at such institutions as Notre Dame, USC, Fondazione Centesimus Annus pro Pontifice (Milan, Italy), the Pontifical Council for Peace and Justice (Rome), and Cambridge University (England). She is the author of the book Aquinas and the Market: Toward a Humane Economy.
