Determining the Impact of Regional Norms on Coups

Grants to Support Faculty Fellows' Research
Grant Year
2018-2019

The bulk of research on military coups focuses on the incidence and prevention of coups. Very little work has been done on how coups end, and nothing has been published that examines this issue from a comparative regional perspective. The envisaged research project will focus on the question: How do regional norms affect the way coups end? This question will first be addressed through a statistical analysis that has regional and temporal dimensions. The project will then explore the theoretical and policy implications of the findings of this analysis through case studies.
