V-Dem Workshop - Catholic University of Chile, Santiago
Conference/Event Grant
“Varieties of Democracy in Latin America” ” (Workshop, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile)
The Varieties of Democracy Project (V-Dem) is an international research collaboration that is producing new indicators of hundreds of attributes of democracy for every country and colony in the world from 1900 to the present.
This grant funded a workshop at Universidad Católica de Chile to bring together members of the V-Dem team from all over the Americas to work together on the project face-to-face. It also included a public event to publicize and disseminate VDem data that gathered potential users of the data—representatives of NGOs, government agencies, international organizations, foundations, and journalists as well as researchers and students—to show them what the data can do, how they can access it, and how they can analyze it.
It is one step in a larger project that has led to two publications and will certainly lead to many more by members of the international research team and others who will use the data it produces.
