Professor Finkel was born in Ukraine and grew up in Israel. His research interests include political violence, genocide, East European and Israeli politics. His dissertation was awarded the American Political Science Association Gabriel A. Almond Award for the best dissertation in comparative politics. Professor Finkel is the author of Ordinary Jews: Choice and Survival during theHolocaust, which will be published by Princeton University Press. He has published articles in the American Political Science Review, Comparative Political Studies, Comparative Politics, and several other journals.
