Former visiting fellow Manolo Vela Castañeda was named honorable mention by the Latin American Studies Association for the Sección de Historia Reciente y Memoria. His book, Micropolítica del terror y de la resistencia militantes de alto riesgo, escuadrones de la muerte y centros clandestinos de detención was recognized under the Historia Reciente y Memoria Section.
The Historia Reciente y Memoria Section aims to foster interdisciplinary and international dialogue among scholars focusing on the recent history of Latin America and the Caribbean. It encourages examination of the utilization and misrepresentation of historical memory in the present.
