Former Dissertation Year Fellow Jorge Vargas-Cullell '06 (PhD, political science) is director of the Programa Estado de la Nación (a Costa Rican research centre).
In this role, he supervised the preparation and recent publishing of the 2021 Central American State of Region Report on Sustainable Development, the 2021 State of the Education Report for Costa Rica, and the 2021 State of the Nation Report for Costa Rica. He shares two reports that are in the pipeline for 2022 are “Condenados a innovar: Costa Rica y el mundo distópico de la post pandemia” in Revista de Filosofía de la Universidad de Costa Rica (January 2022) and the 2022 State of the Justice Report for Costa Rica (April 2022).
